That's great! Pekingese dogs really do keep family bonding stronger. That's the magic of our furry friends.

[b][i] we moved about a month ago. the day we moved in we set up leo;s kennel and the puppy's kennel side by diside in the bedroom. then we took leo and drove down to pick up the new pupy. things had been crazy so this was the first time leo was meeting his sister(same parents). wethey did great on meeting. he was fine with his litter siste and parents too. but he usually is. the car ride back was great. when we got to the house i was sitting on the floor and holding her and she moved and it scared him. i think he thought she was a toy up until then. when i fed them that evening she went over to leo's bowl and he stepped away and let her eat his food. this has become a common occurence. i have to stand guard. he shares all his toys except his lion but is startining to do that now. they play together and have a great time. having monet as a playmate has really helped his attitude. he is a lot calmer and not as contrary.he cleans her and is helping to house train monet. it has been a delightful experience. i didn't have to put up the pen until he got used to her. this situation has really worked out well.
monet plays a little rough for my blood but leo doesn't seem to mind. i still keep my eyes on them when they rough play. he is very gentle with her. oh ! yes he is teaching her how to throw the ball. they have a great time together. my husband and i are so glad we decided to get her. i think what helped was that they both moved in here together. this wasn't leo's territory it was neutral. thank you for your encouragement and advice.

we have success! leo and i went to buffalo over the weekend and he spent his time with 2 miniature poodles. he did very well. they greeted him outside when we pulled up he yipped at them for a few minutes. but he let them smell him and vice versa. then he followed them around and did whatever they did. it was great!

the owner is also a trainer so she showed me somethings to do with him. as he can try to be bossy at times. he has improved greatly in that area in just a few days.

i feel so much better.

I don't think that you are going to have to worry much about Leo not liking her, Phyllis. When you do get to bring her home get yourself an exercise pen to keep her in. That way he can see her and she can see him but there is no chance of him hurting her because she'll be in the pen. Then let him check her out and smell her as you hold her. When she is big enough you can let them play supervised with each other until you are absolutely sure that he won't hurt her. Don't let them play unsupervised until she is big enough and you can trust him completely not to hurt her. Chet and Ali were 5 months old when I let them be in w/ Buddha permanently. For the 1st month I had them in an exercise pen where they could see Buddha and he could see them.

When Milo my peke died I decided to get another but Gizmo my 2 year old was very aggressive. I bought Cosmo a 6 month old. I was a nervous wreck thinking they would get into it. I put Cosmo in the bathroom and he cried and cried. Well Dan my husband a non animal person said I though you were going to let them get together. I told him I was afraid they would fight. He said I'm right here and so are you. Well Cosmo was so happy to be out of the bathroom and Gizmo just sniffed him. I put a crate in the den and locked Cosmo in the crate for the night. In the morning with supervision he was let out again. Couldn't believe how well they got along. We continued this procedure for about two weeks until I was sure no fighting. Now Cosmo howls when Gizmo is not with him. We did the same when Zoe can to live with us. Good luck. Oh Zoe is 4 lbs and she rules the boys. Eileen

I think that as long as the puppy you are getting is female then there shouldn't be any problems. Leo is still a puppy himself, so I think that he'll more than likely accept her. Just introduce them slowly and supervised. If they hit it off right away then don't worry. But, if she is under 6 months then I would keep her separated, possibly in an exercise pen, or playpen (where Leo can see her and vise versa) when you can't supervise their play. Until you are sure that they'll get along and there is no danger of Leo hurting her, don't let them be together unsupervised. I'd be willing to bet that after awhile she'll be the one who bosses him around, ggg.

And I just want to tell you that ALL pekes are stubborn. Just different degrees of stubborness.

i am going to pick your brains again. y'all have great ideas. we are hopefully, getting leo a sister from the same breeder later this year.(parents will be the same-leo has been neutered). since we know he is stubborn is there any advice on how we should introduce the new puppy to him and into our home so that there is little drama. yes he can be very dramatic. he bosses my brothers golden retriever around. sunny
